Korean Air Business Class Lounge Hong Kong Review

Korean Air First and Business Class Lounge Hong Kong (HKG) [Gallery]

Unremarkable lounge that may be worth skipping??

Yeah, it happens… If you’re thinking about heading into this lounge, I hope it’s because you booked a first or business class ticket on Korean Air with some of your Chase Ultimate Rewards points, even though redeeming through Korean is a pain when compared to most other airlines… That’s just what I did on my way from HKG to Seoul ICN so that I could compare the Korean first class in both the 777-300 and A380 – yeah it’s the same product, but I swear that extra few inches of cabin width makes all the difference! 😉

What’s awesome:

  • happened to be convenient to the Korean Air gates (which kind of makes sense…duh)
  • it’s nice that they make an effort to have separate areas for first and business class
  • when I was there it wasn’t at all busy so was nice and quiet

What’s not:

  • very small lounge with not a lot of very comfortable seating options; feels more like a holding area
  • dated interior + no windows + no view = depressing
  • not a lot of food on offer, but you’ll get by if need be
  • no showers or other amenities you might expect when traveling in first/business class
  • seating wasn’t particularly comfortable

Anyway…part of my ritual for every flight is hitting the lounge for a PPDB (Pre-Pre-Departure Beverage) so that I don’t have a raging anxiety attack when we hit turbulence on climb-out at 10k feet. In addition to self-medicating without the approval of a licensed physician, I also find I’m remarkably productive before a flight and like to carve out at least an hour to sit down and clear out my inbox. Needless to say, this is best done in a spacious lounge with lots of natural light and multiple power outlets to charge all my work toys — something this lounge is not.

The Bottom Line:

Consider skipping this lounge…and hopefully using your Priority Pass to get into one of the Plaza Premium lounges, two of which lack a view, but they’re still far superior to this Korean Air lounge.
